Fort Lauderdale Coin Club has its meetings (2nd & 4th Thurs. nights).
Attendance is usually about 50 People. The auction, which is held every meeting, is very active with a good selection or cross-section of numismatic material. Denny, Fred, Bob, Milt, William & Jacki are their usual efficient selves in setting up and making this auction happen. The President (Denny Thostenson) is presiding over the meetings.
From the desk of the President...
As I look back upon my first month as President of our coin club one thing has become readily apparent to me. We have a lot of work to do, you and I. The transition from one administration to another has been less than seamless. We have inherited some issues that are going to have to be dealt with before we can move forward with our agenda.
In the past, our club has been criticized for being a non-educational group. Our meetings consisted of a business meeting and an auction. With the help of Bill Sanders, we will be providing a portion of our meetings for the purpose of providing educational programs. This means that our auction will be smaller than it has been in the past. We will also try to limit the number of auction lots an individual or family can enter. This will provide an opportunity for more members to submit coins for auction. Until we have a set of rules in place, I ask that everybody be patient with us.
This brings up another point that needs to be mentioned. I have personally witnessed verbal attacks upon several of our workers. In the case of our bourse chairman, he was chastised by one of the dealers because the dealer didn't feel that there was enough room between his table and the one across the isle. At one of our recent meetings, our hardworking treasurer was confronted by a member because she didn't respond quickly enough to his demands for money he felt he was due. In both cases, the dealer and the member clearly used the wrong method to express their dissatisfaction. It is no great secret that we are going through some difficult times as a nation, and as Americans. It has always been the goal of our club to provide a pleasant experience for who attend our functions. This can only be accomplished if we respect one another.
Differences are going to occur, it is entirely possible to disagree without being disagreeable.
